There were sports yesterday other than the Super Bowl

The picture above is of Joe Flacco during the blackout at the Superdome yesterday. Really New Orleans... you really couldn't keep the electricity running into the stadium or maybe Beyonce's halftime show blew a fuse?
So anyway, Flacco played a great game, Kaepernick threw the ball hard but not always to the right guy and John outcoached/ really pissed of his brother Jim throughout the game and especially with the intentional safety [Jim is still pissed off at the refs.] Ray Lewis was really annoying as always and Roger Goodell looked like even more of a jackass than usual. Anyway, I'm sure all 10 of you that will read this already know everything that happened in football yesterday, so here is the news from the NHL and NBA:
Not Needed

NBA Recap
Obviously the NBA didn't want to waste their time throwing games up against the Super Bowl as only 3 were played yesterday.
We will start in Boston where the Celtics have really improved since losing leading assist man Rajon Rondo winning 4 in a row since his injury. They beat the Clippers 106-104 in a game that was only close in the 4th quarter. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 22 points while Eric Bledsoe and Jamal Crawford both scored 23 for the Clippers. Blake Griffin scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Steve Nash led the Lakers in assists with 10 for what seems like the first time in forever. Dwight Howard did not play in the Lakers 98-97 win in Detroit. The Pistons missed an ally oop at the end of regulation that would have won the game. Gasol recorded his second straight double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Lastly, the Miami Heat defeated the Toronto Raptors 100-85. Lebron James led the Heat in Points (30), Rebounds (8), and assists (7) while Rudy Gay led the Raptors with 29 points.

All NBA
Guard- Eric Bledsoe- LA Clippers Recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 assists while shooting 9-15 from the field and 2-3 from behind the arc. Only committed 3 turnovers while stealing twice and blocking a shot. Also contributed with 7 rebounds.
Forward- Lebron James- Miami *Player of the Night* As said before, James led the Heat in the three main categories in their win. Shot 10-16 from the field and an okay 9-12 from the free throw line. His 30 points were most in the NBA last night.
Forward- Earl Clark- LA Lakers Filling in for Dwight Howard last night Clark scored 17 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Was 1-3 from behind the arc and played great defense. Recorded 2 steals and 2 blocks and as an added bonus did not commit a turnover in his 41 minutes of action.
Forward- Pau Gasol- LA Lakers Probably the most dominant player in the Lakers/Pistons game. Scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Shot 10-18 from the field and 3-4 from the line.
Center- Greg Monroe- Detroit Was matched up against Gasol last night and played him pretty well. Blocked two shots but also committed 4 turnovers. Shot a good 9-14 from the field.

NHL Recap
The NHL was limited in action yesterday as well with only 4 games.
NBC's game of the week (on the east coast at least) was the matchup between Sid's Penguins and Ovechkin's Caps. The Penguins pulled away in the second period led by Chris Kunitz who recorded the hat trick to win 6-3. Evgeni Malkin dished out two assists but his teammate Sidney Crosby had three. For the Capitals Alex Ovechkin had one assist. The Penguins improve to 12 points while the Capitals are now a lackluster 2-6-1.
In Montreal, the Canadiens beat the Senators 2-1 with all goals coming the first period. This game was between two of my fantasy keepers and I decided to bench Price in favor of Anderson and that was a small mistake. Erik Cole's goal with 9 minutes left in the first proved to be the game winner.
The Panthers and the Sabres played a close one in Buffalo with the Panthers coming out on top 4-3 due to Brian Campbell's powerplay goal in the 3rd. Jose Theodore got the win only facing 20 shots.
For the last game, the New Jersey Devils shutout the New York Islanders 3-0 and it was not Martin Brodeur in net but rather Johan Hedberg. Steve Bernier scored 2 goals for the Devils.

All NHL
Forward- Chris Kunitz- Pittsubrgh  Scored three goals in the 6-3 win including two on the powerplay. Recorded two hits and finished the game with a +1 rating.
Forward- Jerred Smithson- Florida Dished out an assist while also controlling the faceoff circle winning 9 of 12 draws. Also recorded 2 hits and 1 takeaway on the defensive end.
Forward- Thomas Vanek- Buffalo A total of 3 points from a goal and two assists in the loss to Florida. One mistake was a turnover but did finish game with a +3 rating.
Defense- Andy Greene- NJ Devils Recorded 2 assists but played well on defense as well. 2 takeaways, 2 blocks, and 1 hit.
Defense- Robert Bortuzzo- Pittsburgh On this list because he blocked 4 shots in the win. Also chipped in an assist and 2 hits. Finished with a +2 rating.
Goalie- Johan Hedberg- New Jersey Brodeur's backup Saved all of the 22 shots that came his way for the shutout.

Sorry for the shortened list I have to get to class and I want to do players of the week.

Players of the Week
NBA
Guard- Kobe Bryant- LA Lakers Can't recall if he ever appeared on the list throughout the week but he did average 8.2 assists per game as apparently they want to use him as a point guard/ top defender. Averaged a steal game as well as 16.5 points. Only shot 38.7% from the field.
Forward- David Lee- Golden State Shot 51.7% on the field averaging 18 points a game and 14.2 rebounds. Also chipped in with 7.8 assists.
NHL
Goalie- Devan Dubnyk- Edmonton Won two games this week losing one in regulation and one in overtime.  Only let up 6 goals in 4 games so his offense could have been better.
Skater- Antoinne Vermette- Phoenix Scored one goal but really played well offensively. Recorded 12 hits, 4 blocks, and 2 takeaways. Also scored a goal in a shootout.
