Barca falls to RM; Trout gets screwed Over: Flyers Win: Sullivan Hero

1. Real Madrid, who is currently 13 points behind FC Barcelona in La Liga defeated their closes rival 2-1 thanks to a Sergio Ramos goal in the 82nd minute to break the tie. This comes just a few days after beating Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal. Madrid used a different starting lineup with stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil both sitting on the bench. Lionel Messi scored Barcelona's sole goal to become the number one scorer in "clasico" history along with Alfredo Di Stéfano of Real Madrid. Real Madrid will look forward to playing Manchester United in Manchester in three days as part of the Champions League's round of 16.
2. Mike Trout, who placed in second for the AL MVP last year had his contract extended by the LA Angels yesterday. Since he has only been in the majors for a little over a year the team had the right to renew his contract without his approval. His contract was renewed for only $510,000 which is only $20,000 above the league minimum. Trout has not spoken out about the issue but his agent, Craig Landis, said that they were both disappointed by the contract and the fact that Peter Bourjos will be playing centerfield while Trout will be stationed in left. The Angels will not have to go to arbitration with Trout until after the 2014 season ant have no risk of him leaving through Free Agency until after the 2017 season.

OTT14:11- Marc Methot (1) Assists: Colin Greening

Steven Stamkos and Alex Killorn got the Lightning off to a 2-0 start in the first period but from then on out things went down hill from there. This game saw a ridiculous 50 PIM (not quite PHI-OTT, but still) with their  being 24 in the first period alone. The Bruins tied things up in the second with goals from Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley. With a tie entering the third, both teams were pushing for the net and nothing was produced until Brendan Mikkelson's double minor put the Bruins on a man advantage for 4 minutes. After the first minor expired, Brad Marchand scored on an assist by Patrice Bergeron to grab a 3-2 win.
Johan Hedberg suffered his fourth loss of the year with the Devils' 4-3 loss in the shootout. The Devils outshot the Sabres 31-23 but were just unable to score more. Jason Pominville scored twice for the Sabres and also converted for the Sabres on their first shootout attempt. Tyler Ennis scored on their second attempt to secure the win.
Sullivan
The Capitals waited until the second period to score the first of their three goals against the Jets. Matt Hendricks scored in the first while Tory Brouwer and Mike Ribeiro scored in the third. Braden Holtby made 35 saves in the 3-0 shutout win.
A very high scoring game in Montreal where neither goalie had a SV% above .850%. Matt Cooke scored twice for the Penguins while his teammate Sidney Crosby scored once and assisted on two others. Brian Gionta scored 30 seconds after Crosby put the Penguins up to even the game out at 6-6 and send it to overtime. In overtime, Brandon Sutter scored his 6th goal of the year to get the 7-6 win.
Jussi Jokinen scored twice in the first to get the Hurricanes off to a hot start against the Panthers. After leading the first period 3-1 the Canes added another two in the second with Filip Kuba scoring for the Panthers to make it 5-2. Eric Staal then scored his second goal of the game in the third to make it 6-2, where it finished. In the route, Alexander Semin had three assists and Riley Nash had two assists and scored his first goal of the year.
Sullivan
The Coyotes were down 4-3 to the Ducks with 14 minutes left in the game but Steve Sullivan came to the rescue and forced the game into overtime. Neither team was able to produce much once there and a shootout was needed. Sullivan was the hero again scoring the only goal of the shootout leading Phoenix to a 5-4 win.
Dan Hamhuis got the Canucks off to a hot start with a goal three minutes into the game. The Canucks then won the second 3-2 to enter the third up 4-2. With 23 seconds left Chris Higgins scored on an empty net to clinch the 5-2 victory.
Dan Boyle scored in the first and Joe Pavelski scored in the first and second respectively to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead. Nashville's Gabriel Bourque scored while they were down a man in the third but they were not able to muster another opportunity as the Sharks won 2-1.
